Amara recently participated in her first gymnastics competition. It was a really big deal for Amara, who has been doing gymnastics since she was a toddler. (check out an older blog with photos here http://twosmallgems.blogspot.com/2012/04/1-2-3-gymnastics.html). Granted, this was not a professional competition (it was at the school she has been in for the past year) (and whose judges were not professional either but I'll spare those details!) but for Amara, she took it quite seriously, practicing non stop for weeks. Cartwheeling, handstanding, bridging and more everyday and everywhere she could!
Amara placed 9th (which was not bad considering there was about 15 plus girls in her level). We were very proud of Amara, who got out there and did her best in front of so many people including Pap Don, Havana and I along with her friend Anja who came to cheer her on. (that meant an awful lot to Amara too!)
Amara, as observant as she is, did make comments about the judging and a week later, after she spent a week in gymnastics camp, stated she would be better next year, as she is improving her skills! I told her, it didn't matter, she did a great job and had fun. That was what mattered most.
