I have said it many times, that one of the best things about traveling is the food. Sometimes the food is familiar and sometimes the food is unfamiliar. Either way, the local cuisine of the locale of your destination can be a highlight of a trip.
This summer while we were in Spain and Italy, there were many choices to try both new and old tastes. Croissants from the bakery quickly became a favorite for Havana. She has had many croissants in her young life but something about the ones in the market near the school just tasted better. Both girls had a daily banana, strawberry smoothie to go with their pastry. This became part of the morning routine early on. They could not wait for the first break from school, to go to the market and get their new favorite foods. Maybe it was the lure of it seeming more exotic with its Spanish label or the inexpensive cost, I am not sure but they both swore both tasted better than anything back at home.
Being we are vegetarian and pescatarian can sometimes limit what we may try but for the most part we still get to expand our pallets. Local produce is always a hit, especially when we have a kitchen to cook our own meals or are able to cut up fresh fruit for healthy snacks. When we are on the road, Don likes to try out the coffee and beer of whatever location we are currently exploring. And the girls like to see if they can find a boba tea shop for their drinking pleasure.
Our time in Italy allowed us to have the most delicious pasta, pizza, and gelato. We oohed and ahhed our way through many meals and then spoke of the heavenly tasting food long after the food had digested. I was thankful we were walking several miles a day to counter all that deliciousness.
Here are a few photos of some of our culinary encounters.
