Amara learns a lot of things being a Girl Scout. This year, she came home with rocks (not that unusual, she has a huge collection!) but what set them apart from the others was that they were painting rocks. She learned how to pick rocks that she could make paint from with water and other rocks. When we came upon a sweet river near Denali, Amara literally jumped up and down (and up and down) and gathered up rocks to make face painting. We all ended up with 'war markers' and Havana got inspired to make her own paint. Off she went to find moss, berries and rocks of her own. She went back to the RV and gathered her sketch book and trekked back to the river. And then there they sat, two sisters close by, creating art with things found in nature. It was a moment that we could have never planned and ended up being more meaningful.
