Yummy Gummys In My Tummy

Dirt Cake

Last weekend we helped celebrate the birthday of Amara's buddy,  Aradia, who turned 4. Amara and Aradia love each other and thus, love playing together. We met Aradia when she was turning 2. It was that year, at her birthday, that Amara had her first taste of dirt cake, complete with gummy worms. Yes, gummy worms. Amara had never seen, or tasted anything like that and man, was she most curious about trying those 'worms' (of course, it being Amara, we had to explain to her multiple times what they were and were not!)

Most of my mama friends (myself included) try to eat organic, natural, not processed foods. Except on special occasions, like birthdays, or as a last resort.  It seems however, that no matter how fresh and sweet a piece of fruit is, there is apparently something more appealing and tasty about sticky, stretchy, sugar and food color based gummy worms that wins over the more natural choices. (Gotta love those marketing folks!) Amara was thrilled to try them that first birthday party. And each year since she has remembered the "Dirt cake with gummy worms." This year she explained, in full detail, what the cake was like to her sister, thus getting Havana all excited as well!

Thanks to my friend and fellow blogger, Valerie Frey-Stone, for taking these great photos of Amara in her gummy worm induced bliss. I was not feeling it to take pictures that day. Thankfully, Val was, and she captured these priceless shots!

  1. Love these pics of Amara!

We arrived late to the party so, its neat to see what the cake looked like in it's full glory.
