Amara has entered her 2nd year of school. In our Montessori school there are no grades but years (there are 1st, 2nd & 3rd years in the lower classroom, 4th, 5th, 6th in upper elementary and 7 & 8 are middle school) . So Amara is officially is a 2nd year student. With that comes increased responsibility in her class including being a buddy to a 1st year, more homework and classroom jobs. Amara is all charged up to be back at school with her friends and the materials that support that astounding curiosity and sharp mind of hers.
But like many things in life, there are two sides. Amara is having some growing pains as of late. She has been repeatedly telling us we are "Not the boss of her"; tries to be the mother of Havana and has had a smart mouth ("One day you won't be here and I WILL be the mother of Havana!") Don and I are making efforts to learn about the world of seven year old's so we can be help her navigate both the good and the challenging.
Yet despite the recent bumps in the road, I am looking forward to seeing how Amara's 2nd year unfolds for her. Last year she learned about biomes, wetlands, adding, journal writing, Africa, Australia, plant and animal cells and the solar system. There was also Spanish and music class. This year she will expound on these subjects and learn about history, volcanoes and rocks and vertebrates. When I witness all that Amara has learned and will learn my hearts swells with gratitude. I give many thanks that Don and I can support our little indigo daughter with such an awesome education within a loving and progressive community. So here's to Amara's 2nd year!
