Purple Haze (aka Purple Sea Slugs)

When we headed out with some friends on an adventure yesterday, to parts unknown, we never thought that we'd encounter purple sea blobs.
After a stop for doughnuts for the kids (there were 4!) and coffee for the driver (not me; thankfully), we decided to head toward the beach. We ended up at Point Richmond where we discovered the purple creatures.

Yes, that's right; purple, dark purple blobs  that were lined up on the shore line. When we first saw them we had no idea what they were. I thought they were some type of plant or leaf with water in them. After some time debating ideas, a young girl came by and informed us they were purple sea slugs. Purple sea slugs? Huh? What the heck is that? We all wanted to know.

Apparently, due to warmer
waters off the coast these sea slugs (or sea hares) head to the shore to lay their eggs. This is all part of the El Nino effect.

When we looked closer at these blobs, ops, I mean sea slugs, we could see them moving ever so slowly and we noticed their horns or feelers (what were they?!)  These purple sea slugs were for sure unusual, fascinating and had a sweet or gentle feeling about them. When I looked a them I couldn't help but shake my head in wonder at the vast imagination of the Creator and what the cosmos were thinking on the day these curious creatures were created.

After the excitement wore down, the girls played, ate and then the famous fog rolled in and we headed out for the next part of our adventure. When the day was done and we have talked about what stood out, I think the purple sea slugs took first place.
