Playing Tourist (New York, New York)

We headed into New York with our cousins Liz and Alaine. It was a bit odd for me to be a tourist in a city where my father worked for over twenty years!
Amara had read about the Empire State building a long time. She was thrilled to see it from the airplane when we landed and even more excited to see it up close! Havana was in awe of all the "tall buildings" and said she wanted to live in one!

Duane Reade; a  New York Institution. I've
always wondered how there could one on almost every corner!

We came upon a small farmer's market on Broadway.

Fresh squeezed lemonade with watermelon and mint hit the spot. It was about 90 degrees in the City.

The girls loved seeing the characters that are all over Times Square. I had not been to the area since it was cleaned up years ago. What a difference Times Square is these days. But the characters seemed as pushy as the guys that used to ask for money back in the day.

But the girls didn't know that and they loved seeing Dora, Hello Kitty, Cookie Monster and others.
Our friend Michael, who joined us on our tour of Times Square.

The Toys R Us in Times Square was a hit! The girls didn't know what to do with themselves! Their cousins told them they would buy them each a birthday present. It was so hard to decide what to pick! They ended up choosing dolls. And I picked up some books for them about New York.

The girls loved Candy Land area in the store.

Seeing New York, even in the most tourist of spots, through the eyes of the girls was wonderful. It was a hot and humid day but it we made some great memories.
