3 Cheers for Animals

Part of being a Girl Scout entails going through 'Journey's' which help the girls learn valuable lessons about the world around them. These fun, educational journeys are geared to engage girls in discovering something new, connecting with others, and taking action.

Recently, our troop made a visit to the Oakand Zoo to participate in an educational class to help the girls work through one of the their journeys. Our younger gals, the Daisies, did 3 Cheers for Animals where they learned about the importance of animal conservation and how to care for animals. The older Brownies participated in the Wonders of Water journey.

Here is a peak at the Daisies Journey, which was engaging, educational and most of all fun!

Games, like guess which animal I am, were part of the program.

After time in the class, we got outside so we could get up close to the animals and some nature.

The girls made bird nests with  items they gathered outside.

Jenny, was a bird the girls met but could not touch. She taught the girls about illegal animal trade and the importance of respecting wildlife and leaving them in their natural home.

As the troop leader, it is my intention that the girls not only learn leadership skills, build confidence, form community and have a good time but that they learn things that will serve them throughout their life. I believe that planting small seeds today will grow and blossom throughout their lives. Learning about the earth and the creatures that our Creator made are important seeds to plant. Journeys like this are important and invaluable for these awesome future leaders.
